how many miles can one of these typically last? what needs to be done to winterize one of these dual sports?

I have one the same year and it has over 12,000 miles on it and it runs fantastic. These machines aren't made for high revving like the dirt models so, keeping that in mind, and the bike will last you indefinitely. Change the fluids at their suggested intervals and keep the air filter clean. So, the lifespan depends on the type of riding and proper maintenance. There's no specific lifespan.
As for winterizing, I don't know much except, put some fuel stabilizer in the tank. Some people may drain it and the carb.
