New guy from Boston with XR650L

Post by Kilwager » Fri Feb 01, 2019 7:07 pm

Hey all,
Just joined here. Picked up a new(ish) XR650L (1100 miles). I have no clue what I’m doing as I’ve only ridden a motorcycle a few times - although I’ve been an avid mountain biker for over 30 years (for what that’s worth)
Any advice for a beginner with regards to skills, training, gear or places to ride (off-road) north of Boston would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kilwager

Changed topic from "That new guy is a moron..." to "New guy from Boston with XR650L." I feel it's a little less degrading. :)

Hey kilwager I am new to this site today my self, I also own a 2006 xr650l with 2,250 miles and I am just finishing a winter build,1983 xl600r frame with a newly rebuilt xr650l with nx 650 gears and 2007 crf450r usd forks,i live not to far from you actually I am in Merrimack/Bedford nh line, for advise 1st off check the oil often ,and check it the proper way after it has warmed up,also changing your oil is another important one it is really not as much what kind of oil but more of how often you change it,and valve adjusting every 2 thousand or so, I cant seem to loadany pics ive tryed and says file to large even if its a small pic so at the moment I cant figure out why? but we can hook up and do some riding once weather breaks, if you have a email I will send you pic of my winter build thats almost complete, ok ttys Marc!.

Dont be afraid of it, practice practice practice, makes a better rider, its to cold here really for riding 16 degrees is a bit on chilly side , but spring is near, any time you want to ride let me know we can hook up, there are a few state park rides straight up 93 north near concord nh that would be good for you to learn terrain.
