hi, anybody know how much fork oil is required for an 01 ktm 400 exc? cc or ml pls. i took the forks and caps off to change the oil. i know we need to measure it without the spring etc to be accurate, but i only want to change the fork oil and service it later for an annual teardown. thanks :)

Try 375cc 300ml.

According to the manual I have (WP 4860 MA 48mm), it says:
  • Fork Oil: SAE 5
  • Air Chamber Length: 110mm
I'm assuming Air Chamber Length is the open space above the oil, from the top of the oil to the top of the fork leg. What does your Air Chamber Length measure with 300ml of oil?

UPDATE: 300ml might be close because the '01 forks were 43mm as opposed to 48mm. Either way, the 110mm from the top should get you in the ballpark.

hi, i cant measure the height cos i only take the fork cap off, the spring & stuff still intact, thats why i can only pour out the oil, it was about 300ml, so i poured back 300ml to be 'safe', however i had some 'leak' awhile ago, thats why i am worried if i had put back enough oil. :)

There is a spell checker on this website you know. Not trying to be rude but some old timers (not me) can't decipher those codes!
