hey guys been with honda all my life and getting ready in bout a year and a half to step up in bikes. Im lookin at 450's and dont want to leave hondas but all of a sudden have turned into high maintainence machines, so the alternate would be a KTM 450 SX or EXC.

But i want to know how happy you are with your KTM's and how much maintainence they require, because i heard that KTM's dont rev as hard as it's rivals making it a better machine is this true help me out here thanks!!!

metalmulisha, I love my KTM. I have a 400 EXC with a 453 kit and it hauls butt. I have a question for you though. What type of riding are you in to? If you are a track guy then a SX is the right machine. If you like all kinds of riding with little or now track time then EXC is a great choice. I just answered this very question in another thread here a bit ago. Rather than re-write it here please check my answer to your question on the other 4 strokes/KTM thread regarding my maintainence perspective.

My answer is the last reply to that thread (Title is "Switch from XR650L to EXC525") at the moment. Good luck with your decision.

I love my 450 exc. It is my first dirt bike. Dirt Rider and Dirt Bike both picked it as teh top 450 with E-start. myosin

Ever wonder just how unbiased a magazine can be?This has nothing to do with KTM, they're a very good bike. Usually I look around my area and see whos bike is holding up and meets the riding conditions best.Ideally, I'd like my XR650R but just 50 lbs. lighter.

Don't be afraid of Euro bikes, they're great! I don't think you could go wrong with the KTM450 or a CRF450.

Not skeerd of em, just have not seen any KTMs in the desert that have 20k miles and no big repairs.Have not seen any 20 yr old KTMs in the desert either but plenty of XRs.

XR4DEZ, I think Speedy was directing his comment to the original poster. :)

I have a 02 520SX, stock other than a Big Gun exhaust, MXC tank & seat and Quickshot accelerator pump cover. I know its a kick only bike but I recently raced a tight woods Hare Scrambles and it was perfect. The only downfall is that it has a 4 speed gearbox in long straightaways, 2nd gear for almost everything else. If you keep your valves adjusted the bike will start with ease, just as with any other euro/jap bike. The light weight and monster power made it a awesome race.....until the sprocket bolts backed out with less than a lap and a half to go.
