Topic: 250rfs vs.450rfs.

I own the 250 rfs and my buddy came over with his new 450rfs, both which are '03 exc models. He let me ride the 450 and asked me what I thought about it when I got back. I was kind of dissapointed becuase I was waiting for a big pull down low but that was not the case. It felt like it did not have that much more power than the 250. It had a little bit but not near what I was expecting. I had to ride the 450 the same as the 250 by ringing its neck. I thought I was going to be able to use the torque to pull me out of stuff, but it just was not there. Has anybody ridden these two bikes back to back and had the same opinion and does the mxc version differ in power from the exc, I hope so because I like ktm's alot and I want a 450 but I want it to have significantly more power than the 250.

You have a few options to achieve improved low end performance. One is to put a 351 kit in your 250. I have heard nothing but great reviews on those. The obvious advantage is that you would be able to keep your current bike. HT Racing sells the kits.
Another option is to try different gearing on the 450. Many folks have had good luck by changing the countershaft sprocket (cheaper and easier than the rear).
Lastly try a 520/525. They are amazing down low and weigh essentially the same as both your 250 and the 450 and surprisingly easy to ride.
I have a 400EXC with a 453 kit and it nice power throughout.
