in the "new or future mods" thread i posted a pic of my up sized bridgestone battlax 140/80/18 road tire on the rear of my 08 xt 250, I need some help sourcing out a smaller front rim to replace the 21in front, (they make an international model xt250x with a smaller front rim but i cant get a part number or nor can i find a compatible rim to fit, im looking for a front rim 16-18in that will be compatible, even my local dealer said they aren't too sure where to look, anyone out there with any info on where i can find a compatible rim would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your time guys

looks like a shop from Vancouver CA have figured out set up, it appears they used a "2.5 17" front rim" but had to drill the stock hub for the larger spokes, i was thinking of possibly finding a 2.75 17 front rim, again any help would be appreciated, questions comments concerns lets hear some responses don't get shy on me guys

I have a couple ideas that may or may not be worth pursuing. From what I can tell, the Yamaha TW200 uses a 2.5" x 18" front wheel with a 130/80-18 tire. Not sure about the spokes. You may be able to lace a TW rim to an XT hub without too much trouble. There's used complete TW wheels on eBay for $100 but they have drum brakes.
The Yamaha TW225 might have direct bolt-on wheels if not too wide.

I believe the XT125R and X models have 17" wheels stock.
I'm not sure if a 2008 Yamaha WR250X Supermoto wheels would work on the XT250... I would guess they would be the least likely, direct bolt-on anyway.
One of our sponsors, Motorcycle Superstore, has a Warp 9 rear 36-hole Supermoto rim for the 2008 Yamaha WR250X in 17" by 4.5" and 5" wide. Do you know if your XT250 has 36-hole rims?
I did see complete aftermarket Supermoto wheel sets on eBay for a little over $1200. I checked Motostrano and they didn't have anything at all.

ok so i bought a yamaha tw200 complete front wheel (2.5x18), i have never swapped rims out like this before so my intentions were to take it to a local dealer but hey why not tackle it myself i have basic to moderate bike mechanic experience so can anyone give me a few pointers before i tackle this? i was thinking of trying to fit the new rim and spokes to the original xt hub, thanks

I've never had the need to lace a dirt bike wheel but I've done many 20" and mountain bike wheels. They can be tricky but a little perseverance will payoff. Truing the wheel will be the hard part. Worst case scenario, you'll have to take what you did accomplish in to a shop and have them complete the build. I would search YouTube with the term "how to lace a motorcycle wheel" to find how-to videos.
Here's one that is supposedly from a first-timer: Lacing my rear wheel...1st time. Then you'll want to do the same for truing. I would suggest investing in a good spoke wrench, the wider the tip the better (less likely to strip nipple) and if funds allow, a spoke torque wrench.

I'm Gunnar be starting soon on this rim just been busy lately I feel as if I'm going to have a few issues being that this is a drum brake rim and I have front disc on the xt
