Maxxis Maxxcross IT (Intermediate Terrain) Front Tire
The tire used in this test was an 80/100-21. This tire design is about a year old and has a good tread pattern for most conditions. Although the tire design and compound are rated for intermediate conditions it seemed to hold well in a great variety of terrain and conditions. We ran it in the dry mountain and desert areas of southern California as well as on the hard, intermediate, dry and wet trails of Utah and Colorado. Traction was very consistent and predictable in all conditions and areas. We put over 1600 miles on this tire before we decided it was time to change it. At that time the knobs were still pretty much intact with just some rounding on the edges but the side knobs were developing cracks and getting ready to chunk. Rating - 1 2 3 4 5
The Maxxcross IT front is a good tire recommended for the budget minded off-roader as a good all around tire.

Maxxix Maxxcross IT (Intermediate Terrain) Rear Tire
The tire used in this test was a 110/90-19. The Maxxcross IT is a good intermediate to intermediate-hard terrain tire, but also worked well in light sand. It hooked up well on hard pack and hard pack with loose soil or sand on top. It corned and accelerated well and was just okay in mud. This tire does not have the squirmy feel of the Sur Cross ST above thanks to the reinforced and pretty sizeable lugs. The tire wore very well and the knobs took a while to start rounding over. This is a great all-around tire like that of the Dunlop 739, and we believe this is what Maxxis was shooting for with this tire. The good thing is though the Maxxcross IT rear is considerably less money than the Dunlop and that's a great thing for the budget minded trail rider. Rating - 1 2 3 4 5
The Maxxcross IT rear is also a very good all-round tire and is recommended for the budget minded trail rider.
