Maxxis Sur Cross ST (Soft Terrain) Front Tire
We tested the majority of our Maxxis tires on big-bore thumpers and in almost all cases on trails, as opposed to motocross tracks. The tire used in this test was an 80/100-21, pretty common front tire. This is an outstanding tire on soft to intermediate terrain. Where its mate was somewhat squirmy, it was not. This is also one of the best tires around for mud because of the widely spaced knobs. Maxxis touts this tire as State-of-the-art construction that provides ultimate bite and acceleration on soft terrain and we can certainly testify that their statement is not far from the truth.

This Maxxis Sur Cross ST front has became one of our top rated tires for sand, loom, mud, and any other type of soft terrain. If you frequently ride in this type of terrain you cannot go wrong with this tire!
Maxxis Sur Cross ST (Soft Terrain) Rear Tire
The tire used in this test was a 110/100-18. The Sur Cross ST had great straight line traction in almost any terrain and performed flawlessly in sand and was even good in mud. On hard-pack the tire felt somewhat squirmy and corning control was just okay. This is a great tire for some of the southern California terrain like Ocotillo Wells because it performed very well in sandy terrain, has pretty stiff sidewalls that are also puncture resistant, and it lasts exceptional well for a soft terrain tire. This tire worked well with its mate, the Sur Cross ST front, and also the Maxxcross IT front shown below.
4Strokes.com Rating - 1 2 3 4 5
The Maxxis Sur Cross ST rear could easily become one of our most favorite soft terrain tires. If you ride primarily on sand and soft to intermediate type terrain we would recommend the Maxxis Sur Cross ST rear tire.
