Im surprised it only cost the guys $1000 to have the Helicopter lift their bikes out of the canyon ! I've been told to expect around $6000-8000 bill for a Medical Air Lift !

About 10 grand, my KTM buddy had one about 6 weeks ago. Mushed his kidney in a 5mph fall. He is going to put the rock he fell on in his front yard and tell everyone it's a kidney stone. Plus he gets to pass it every morning on his way out of the house.

At least when he passes that stone it won't be that painful. But the medical bill will be.

Just FYI regarding being rescued if anything should happen to you: In Colorado, and most other western states, your hunting, fishing, and if it's available, a hiking license has a $0.25 Search & Rescue fee that works like insurance. The cost of a heli-vac and the other services of a wilderness rescue are covered by this fund. If you don't ever want to see a $10,000+ helicopter bill, get a damn license for 20$! I believe the hiking 'license' was $1.25. If you live out west, get one, and offer to add $1 to the S&R fund. Ride Responsibly.

I know they'll haul you out if you have a license, but I would figure the bike is still extra?

Good question, blue! With my old CO registration, I would figure the rescue, including equipment would be covered. Hadn't thought about that. I suppose I could check..
