4Strokes.com Technical: DIY Dirt Bike Rubber Frame Guards by Anthony Loh
Make Your Own Frame GuardsThis article is about making your own very inexpensive frame guards. They are much cheaper than factory or aftermarket metal frame guards. They work very well without rust in almost all weather conditions. Have fun making your own!
  1. First cut a piece of paper to the shape of area to be covered and make any holes for swingarm bolts and such.
  2. Trace the pattern onto a piece of 5mm thick tough rubber meant for the soles of shoes (pictured). This material cost me about $3 SGD ($1.84 USD). Other materials that can be used: traction decal (rough textured sticker meant for skateboards), thick neoprene, or anything else you can find that you may work. Anthony has also made full-length frame guards.
  3. Cut out the shape using scissors or a sharp knife.
  4. Use cable ties (zip ties) to attach the new guard to the frame. Make sure it does not get in the way of moving parts.
