I don't think it matters how much oil is in the system, because the pump is blind to the volume it's pumping ... it just keeps on pumping at the same rate no matter how much oil is fed into it. I think the only way you'd put more strain on the pump would be to add a significant amount of larger diameter oil line to the bike.
Yes you are right, another way to get more volume from the pump is to go from a 47t sprocket"gear" to a 46t oil pump gear. That spins the pump a little faster. |

| while waiting for the right parts i was checking out the cam today and the autodecompressor had a lot of play in it and i started to press off the sprocket holder to look at the inside of the decompressor but almost had it off but i had to pick up my kids. darn! i should have it off tomorrow to get a good look at the insides of the unit.i think the unit had so much play that all the oil shot out of it and starved my cam and rockers like procycletech was saying. cant wait to get that thing off! |

That's a nice little trick to know, thanks. |

Good news that it fired up straight away....am Assuming that you put the hotcam in? - isn't the process of bedding it in now require a 30min or so non stop ride...yes |

great work, I expected that you would manage the install nicely. We wait with baited breath :-) |

| well went for a 150 miles today with the new cam. hmmm not too impressed yet. it might be because i rode it last with almost a empty tank of gas then today i put 9 gallons of gas before the ride but it didnt seem any faster. as i used up the gas it did run stronger so maybe its just the extra 60lbs of gas? i does run good though but i will see when i have the tank near empty to see how it pulls.other than that i do like it because the motor sounds like a brand new tight motor. no more clanking rattling autodecompressor.the starter sounds different now too almost like it spinning more solid and faster? |

Interesting, and while its good that you have got the noises out of the beast it does seem dissapointing that the cam wasn't noticeablely better. do you have the hi comp piston? I think that with the change in valve timing related to that cam, you lose some compression hence why performance on standard piston isn't impressive so to get the best out of the hotcam, you need more pressure.
Thx for the updates, keep em coming.

| took gas out so had about a gallon then pulled baffle out of the muffler today and rode it. it still has great throttle response but i think i lost a little bottom end. mid and top seem to be just a tad stronger but not much it seems. i wish i could have done the cam overnight instead of taking two weeks to get the parts and everything so i could tell the difference better.there is no way the cam chain could be off a tooth could it? i talked to a honda mechanic and he said it wouldnt run right if it was off and another guy said it would barely run if it was off a tooth.i think its fine but just wondering. the motor does sound really nice though with no noise! |
