does anybody know the output of the XR500r stator? I'm interested in dual-sporting mine and don't know the output. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

'81 and '82 XR500R's currently. '86 KX500 and '89 NX125 previously.

If it could help, in Clymer manual they say XR500R '81-'82 is 6 Volts system. '83-on is 12 Volts. Headlight bulb for '81-'82 is 6V 25-25 Watt, for '83 12V 25-25 Watt. But for a XL500R is 12V 35-36. 5 Watt, charging current is 2.7 Amps at 2,500rpm. Hope you can sort out something with these number.

Thanks mud 454! That helps a lot. Maybe I can get the stator and rectifier off of an XL to work on my XR. I know 81-82s are kind of odd.

Glad to help. Forget to mention that for the XL500R, it an 1982. Run mine with 2, 55 watts on alternator only. Just one at the time. If i burn one, i switch to the other one.

Hello there, It seems that the stator on my 81 XR500R is shot. I am about to put in one from a XL500R. Given that it will now be 12 V, should I be worried about the coil and the ignition module? Thanks.

I just check in Clymer,if you can get one same as the original one, should a better bet! Pulse generator and exiter coil is not the same resistance value. Wont work,unless you change what i mention before.Pulse etc.....
