I had the opportunity to ride the 09 KX450F this past monday on the ice. This bike currently belongs to my boss, he is using for his short track and TT races this season. Currently it is setup for motox with slightly lowered revalved suspension, minor head work and a full Supertrapp exhaust. I'd have to say this bike is phenomenal. In cold temperatures, it fires right up. The new decompressor system on the exhaust cam works excellent providing effortless kickstarting. It truly is a one kick bike, hot or cold. In terms of power, this bike is nothing short of balls out. It has around 56 HP in stock form, so I'm guesstimating around 58-59 as it is now with the minor tuning. The power is so smooth though. The typical hard burp when you gas 450 is gone. Don't get me wrong, it is stronger, but the power is much more linear because the torque is line is smoothed as well. You can also gear this bike one gear too high and it'll still pull. Smooth tractable power, yet stronger than ever. I am very impressed with it's riding characteristics and am looking forward to owning it at the end of this season. Here are a couple pics.

Has your boss messed with the Fuel mappingat all on the bike? I watched a video a while back with a team mechanic having the bike hooked up to a lap top playing with the different settings.

Bikes can be modified but only one can be Thumpified, Nicely Thumpified 98 XR450 - This is how I roll in OR & in ID

He has the tuning guide for it, but to put it lightly, he's not very computer savvy. I imagine I'll be called up to try and figure things out. It is somewhat adaptive as all EFI systems are, he's more focused on the engine side of things right now. Surprisingly though, considering his reluctance to use an EFI bike he and I are both very pleased with the results so far.

So far, the rev limiter can not be adjusted which is a bit of an issue. There is the capability to use the present engine maps, but also the ability to create a completely customized map. This would most definitely require extensive use of a dyno and track time to test all the results. Also, the display shows the throttle opening in a percentage which is cool so you know which area of throttle opening you need to adjust if you notice lean or flat spots in a dyno graph. The throttle opening percentage correlates with the rpm range. Also, you can program a separate map for each gear allowing different maps to be used for a gear say primarily used for starting and once off the line will not return to that gear until the next race.
