is it possible to lower the bike several inches so that others who ride it will be able to have their feet touch the ground?

How is this done?

I have the same problem tstan. I have a 2006 DRZ 400S and when I sit on it only my tip toes can touch. But I was talking to a motorcycle shop where I live and they said you could take the seat to a reupholestery shop and have them shave alittle off the seat but I'm not sure if that will work or not. But they also told me that you raise your forks by loosening them and if you have a spanner wrench you can loosen the rear suspension so that it will give more when you sit on the bike. I personally raised my forks and I haven't got a spanner wrench yet to loosen the rear suspension on my yet. And the guy that I bought my DRZ from also told me that they make a kit to lower the rear end of the bike. He called it a drop kit but I haven't been able to find one on the internet yet but I'm still looking. I hope this helps you out.

I know this reply is late but, I wouldn't recomend shaving the seat down. It would make for an uncomfortable ride. A lowering link is the way to go.
